The portable tankless water heater does nothing:
Ensure that you have your water source hooked up to the water inlet side (far right connection) and the shower handle is hooked up on the water outlet side (far right connection).
Ensure that you have an adequate supply of propane.
Ensure that you have fresh batteries.
