The image above demonstrates the correct and proper installation of the i12 Liquid Propane tankless water heater. Notably, the Blue Arrow (1) indicates the appropriate backflow preventer with a downward slope. Regarding water connections, the Yellow Arrow (2) highlights the use of properly sized ½” water pipes. In terms of the gas connection, as denoted by the Green Arrow (3), a ½” connection is correctly utilized. Additionally, we have advised the customer to confirm that the gas pressure falls within the acceptable range, specifically between the minimum and maximum inches of water column.

The E5 error code for an i12 Liquid Propane Tankless water heater indicates there is a potential blockage in the vents and affected the pressure (vacuum) switch of the fan assembly of the water heater.

  • First, we recommended that the customer inspect their ventilation system. This involves removing the top vents, ensuring there are no obstructions both internally and externally, confirming cleanliness, and verifying the proper functioning of the butterfly valve.

  • Second, we recommended that the customer use a manometer to assess their gas pressure. They should ensure that the gas pressure falls within the acceptable range, as indicated in the right-side panel of the water heater for reference, between the required minimum and maximum inches of water column.

How we fixed the E5 error code for the i12 Liquid Propane tankless water heater. Once the customer has verified that their ventilation system is unobstructed, the butterfly valve is operational, and the gas pressure falls within the acceptable range (minimum to maximum inches of water column), the subsequent step is to inspect the pressure switch or vacuum switch. There is a possibility that blockages in the vents may have affected these components. For additional guidance on resolving this issue, please refer to the provided image below.

Following the customer's completion of the troubleshooting steps outlined above, the i12-Liquid Propane tankless water heater operated seamlessly, and the E5 error code was successfully resolved. The issue stemmed from a blockage in the ventilation system, causing the pressure switch or vacuum switch to become stuck.
