How to connect your ESH water heater to the Wi-Fi and the app

Updated over a week ago

To connect your ESH water heater to the WiFi and the app, please follow these steps:

1. Turn on WiFi

  • Ensure the dial/knob on the side of the water heater is set to “WIFI”.

  • The power icon will be BLUE (off) at first. Tap the power icon to change it to RED (on).

2. Enter Connection Mode

  • EZ Connection Mode: Press the power icon for 5 seconds. The power icon will turn RED and begin fast blinking. This is the best way to connect.

  • AP Connection Mode: Press the power icon for 10 seconds. The power icon will turn RED and begin slow blinking.

3. Pairing with the App

  • Make sure the water heater is in one of the pairing modes:

    • Fast blink = EZ mode

    • Slow blink = AP mode

  • Open the Eccotemp app and click “Add Device” in the top right corner.

  • A screen will appear saying “Searching for nearby devices. Make sure your device has entered pairing mode (fast blink or slow blink)."

  • If the water heater does not automatically connect, select “ADD MANUALLY”. Choose the “Mini Tank Water Heater” for the ESH model.

4. Connect to WiFi

  • If prompted, select a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and enter the password. Click “NEXT”.

  • If you get a pop-up about being connected to a 5 GHz network, select “Continue with Current Network”.

  • Ensure the power icon on the water heater is fast-blinking and RED.

  • Click the circle next to “Confirm red button blinks quickly” and then click the RED box at the bottom of the screen that says “Next”.

5. Complete the Connection

  • The water heater and app will begin connecting, which may take 2-3 minutes.

  • The power icon on the water heater will stop blinking and turn solid red once connected.

  • Once paired, the screen will update to show the water heater. You can rename it if you wish and then use the app to control the water heater.
