L5 Water Is Too Hot
Updated over a week ago

My L5 has been great for the couple of years I have had it. I actually have 2 now. However the one I use most, had to use through hurricane Irma recently, is scalding hot all of a sudden. I have the water input knob all the way up and the heat knob all the way down, but it's still hot enough to make coffee!! Do you have any suggestions? Hunting season is here and I'm not sure I can use it. Thanks!

Hello John Smith,

Please keep in mind that the L5 is NOT to be permanently mounted or left unattended as it is not recommended and can be considered a hazard. Not for indoor usage or to be vented. Also, these units are not to be plumbed in to the side or any other part of the house or location and is meant to serve for recreational use only. Using in the manners stated will violate your warranty.

For your records your ticket number is located above. We regret any inconvenience that this issue may be causing you and please be assured that we will do what is necessary to resolve it. Please don't hesitate to contact us anytime or to update this ticket as needed.

Things to check:

  1. Your Eccotemp L5 needs a minimum of about ¾ of a gallon per minute to stay on. If you have too little water running through the L5 it will reach very high temperatures and shut off at 130 degrees Fahrenheit as a safety feature.

  2. The L5 requires a minimum of 20 pounds per square inch of water pressure. If a pump is set too low or fluctuates in pressure the temperature will be too hot or fluctuate during operation. This water heater does not self-adjust to compensate for changes in water flow.

  3. If you are not using the included shower head as an attachment, disconnect any plumbing from the outgoing water connection and attempt operation to determine if that is the source of your issue.

  4. Start your water heater with your gas at minimum and your water knob at halfway and see if this helps.

If your issues continue to persist please reply to this email and we will try additional steps to resolve your issue.

We appreciate and value your business,

Thanks Brian. Maybe the water flow is not sufficient. I adjusted it and we're getting warmer water, just like that.

Hello John Smith,

Good day!

You're welcome. Yes that is possible that the flow is not sufficient so adjusting the water pressure would help.
