If the over-temp sensor is faulty, it may prevent the unit from igniting. (We can confirm that the part is faulty by bypassing it)

If the unit ignites with the sensor bypassed, then it is the sensor that is the problem.

The sensor is a fail-safe device. Without it, your unit would go beyond the limit of heating and it would cause it to overheat. The over-temp sensor stops this from happening.
